The women’s basketball team poses together.

Five-year-old Camryn Brown dribbles a basketball down the court in imitation of her idol Michael Jordan. As she runs suicides and lifts weights during the offseason, she visualizes herself fulfilling her dream of playing collegiate basketball in the future. From her first layup in her first high school varsity game, to her 1000th point scored on a three pointer against Highland during her senior year, Brown has evolved into a dynamic player on the court.

Senior Camryn Brown entered the Revere basketball program twelve years ago and has progressed through the years, building her relationship with her teammates and using her passion for the game to inspire her teammates.

Brown discussed how long she had been playing basketball and her inspiration for playing.

“I’ve played basketball since I was 5 years old. I’ve been on varsity all four years of high school. I play because I love the game of basketball. I love watching it, playing it, teaching it, studying it. It’s my passion. It always has been,” Brown said.

Brown’s longtime teammate Caitlin Vari spoke about how Brown has influenced her basketball career.

“[Brown] has impacted me since the fifth grade when she moved here. We have played together in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and school for seven years. She has helped me become a better leader and overall basketball player,” Vari said.

RHS women’s basketball coach Kevin Verde has known both Brown and Vari since they were in 5th grade, and noticed some early signs that they would succeed. He said that they were both very determined as they played on both the travel and recreational teams. Verde says that he believes that the both of them have elevated the women’s basketball program to another level.

“I feel that if they [would not] have been at Revere, I [do not] know if Revere would have had the turnaround in the girls’ basketball program. They changed the dynamic for Revere basketball for girls,” Verde said.

Camryn’s teammate Abby Brock discussed Camryn’s impact on the team.

“Camryn is always very into it. She is always positive and gets you pumped up. She is always the one to bring us together,” Brock said.

Brown also discussed her love for the game and what she learned from it.

“Basketball has taught me so many lessons over the years. Not only lessons about sports, but it has taught me life lessons as well. I have learned the importance and significance of teamwork, family, leadership, and communication. Probably the biggest thing I have learned is not to take what you have for granted, because you never know when it could be taken away or what someone else is going through,” Brown said.

Brock discussed the team’s goals for the season.

“Our goal was to win a league championship, which we accomplished. We also want to win a district championship,” Brock said.

Brown plans on playing collegiate basketball at High Point University in High Point, North Carolina.
