Revere graduate coaches several sports

A Revere alumnus has decided to help coach freshman football, middle school wrestling and high school Varsity track for the upcoming seasons.

Billy D’Amico graduated from Revere six years ago and participated in multiple sports such as football, track, baseball and basketball. This is D’Amico’s first experience coaching. He explained why he decided to start.

“I have always thought about coaching since I was young. I enjoyed helping out at the Revere Youth Football camp the first week of summer. When I went to Baldwin Wallace University to continue my academic and football career, I went in as a marketing major with a minor in entrepreneurship. I thought about the people who influenced me growing up (my parents, Coach Cistone, Coach Heyn, Coach Heideman, Mr. Casey, and Mr. Rorabaugh), and it hit me that all of them are teachers and coaches.

Right there is when I realized I wanted to be a teacher and a coach. I have learned so much in my short life already, and I need to share that with others. The best way to do that is to teach [and] coach,” D’Amico said.

D’Amico made the decision to coach all levels of different sports. He explains why he decided to coach from middle school all the way to Varsity level sports.

“In my future I plan on becoming a head coach at the Varsity level. Before I can become in charge of an entire team, I need to coach all levels to understand the different techniques used for the different ages,” D’Amico said.

During the spring D’Amico will coach varsity track. Revere head track coach Lyle Kniep explained why he decided to bring D’Amico onto the coaching roster.

“Hiring Coach D’Amico was one-hundred percent my decision as the head coach. I chose to hire Coach D’Amico because he was the right person for the job in all aspects. Coach D’Amico demonstrates every quality that a great coach could possess. Coach D’Amico is first of all great with our student athletes. He wants to take his experiences from his time here at Revere as well his time as a college athlete, and help our student athletes in any way that he can. Coach D’Amico only had the best recommendations from the people who I spoke to, and every one of them said that they have no doubt that he would be a great choice to work with the Track and Field program,” Kneip said.

While coaching the freshman football team, D’Amico got to work alongside with former Varsity football coach Terry Cistone.

“He [is] a great addition to this District and Billy can coach other sports also. He is coaching wrestling right now and will be coaching track this spring,” Cistone said.

D’Amico’s goals as a coach are to improve his coaching for his players, and the community, and help motivate and teach his players.
