High school offers unique experiences, relationships

At the time of writing this column, our senior class has fourteen days of school left, a few weeks until prom and graduation, and one more set of senior nights and AP tests. Most of our class has been together since kindergarten or earlier, spending nine months of the year together through Hillcrest, Bath, RMS, and now RHS. We’ve learned or suffered under the same teachers, worked under the same coaches. We’ve laughed at the same things, and eaten the same subpar cafeteria food thanks to Michelle Obama. We supported each other at football games, musicals, plays, and pep assemblies. We have created friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime. We have spent 13 of the past 18 years together, and it feels like we were just freshmen, unsure of where anything was, or how to navigate th e seemingly-massive high school.

Looking back, however, I realize that I have enjoyed every moment of the experience. I loved being a part of the eighth grade football team that went undefeated for the first time in middle school history. I loved watching our soccer team bring home the state title freshman year. I loved being a part of the football and track teams, interacting with very different coaches and players, all of whom made the brutal summer workouts or runs out in the snow worth it. I loved the locker room in between two a day practices, and relaxing in the tent at invitationals. I loved watching my friends and classmates memorize incredible amounts of dialogue and perform amazing plays and musicals. I loved watching the volleyball and women’s basketball teams consistently win the Suburban League. I loved being a part of the Mock Trial team, which introduced me to many new people and helped me decide what I want to do for the rest of my life. I loved contributing to the Lantern and learning from Mr. Silvidi, an opportunity I recommend to anyone interested in becoming a better writer, leader, or person. Above all, I loved finding the friends that I love, and whom I will enjoy for many years to come.

Incredibly, we will all be scattered across Ohio and the country in a little more than four months. We will grow up, get married, have kids, take on mortgages, and eventually become our parents. Therefore, I am going to cherish every minute I have left with the friends, teachers, and school I’ve grown to love, because Revere and the Class of 2017 is worth remembering.
