In March of 2026, Mojang, the company behind Minecraft, released the Tiny Takeover update. The update features a redesign of the baby mobs in the game, updated flowers, the ability to craft nametags and new sounds for note blocks.
The updated design of baby mobs in the game not only includes visual redesigns, but also updated sounds and animations. The most noticeable visual update is in the size of the baby mobs’ heads.
Compared to the classic overly large heads of previous generations, the heads are now proportional to the child’s body variation. The classic baby chicken design has been completely scrapped and replaced with a bright yellow, more realistic version of the baby chicken.
A similar scenario occurred with the design of rabbits. Before, the mobs were very small and hard to tame or attack. Now, the adult version of the mob is the same size as an adult chicken, while the size of the baby rabbit is the same as the original adult design. The ability to tame rabbits is much easier, as they now behave similarly to cats instead of running around, making it difficult to catch. The mob now sneaks up to the player when they hold dandelions or carrots.
The auditory effects have been updated to now include pig eating sounds and new sounds for kittens, puppies, foals and chicks. They now have higher-pitched sounds, while the classic sounds are reserved for adult mobs.
The game has a new item called the golden dandelion. The design is the same as the classic dandelion, but with different colors. The item is crafted by surrounding a dandelion with eight gold nuggets. The purpose of the new item is to keep baby animals from growing up. When a baby animal is fed a dandelion, green effects appear around the animal, but they move downward instead of upward, as when aging up an animal. The new item also attracts piglins, similarly to other golden items in the game.
Nametags were previously available only by trading with a librarian villager or by raiding dungeons, woodland mansions, mineshafts or ancient cities. Now, the item is able to be bought from wandering traders and crafted. The recipe for the nametag is relatively simple and only requires a piece of paper and any variation of nuggets: gold, copper, or iron.
Noteblocks produce different sounds when placed on various blocks. Previously, the sounds available were Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Hi-Hat, Pling, Wood Block, Stone Block, Glass Guitar, Flute and Bell. Now, when the note block is placed on a solid copper block, it produces a trumpet sound. This creates more variation for redstone music creators.
The update was promoted through the release of a skin pack that included several customizable items of clothing and a redesign of the Minecraft launcher website. The website now has cute mode, which changes the cursor into seeds and spawns several chicks on the screen that follow the cursor.
While the updates do enhance the game, some players feel that Mojang is avoiding large updates through several small changes over the course of a year. Before 2023, Mojang released one large update per year, which had several noticeable changes to the game. Now, the company releases micro-updates that many players feel are lackluster and do not provide what the community wants.
In previous updates, the developers added a new variety of tools and armor made out of copper. Many felt that the update was unnecessary and simply crowded the block menu. Additionally, new tools, such as the spear, were added. These felt pointless and a way to distract from the lack of meaningful updates.
Several community members are calling for larger updates, some of which are taking it upon themselves to create mods that provide the desired updates. Many members are angry that players can create mods that provide what the community wants, but Mojang, for some reason, cannot.
The micro-updates do provide greater opportunities to fix bugs in the game, but do not introduce enough new items to the game. Many feel that the introduction of several small updates is a tactic to make it appear that there are several additions to the game, without actually adding new mechanics, functions and visuals. The nostalgic feeling of opening a new update and relearning how to play the game has vanished and is replaced by disappointment and unnecessary complication.
