Mary Beth Tinker came into Revere High School to speak about freedom of speech.

Mary Beth Tinker visited Revere High School to give a presentation regarding her history and the value of First Amendment rights.

Tinker spoke during fifth period on April 4, 2016 as part of her multi-year, nationwide Tinker Tour. Select students who attended the event learned about Tinker’s fight for her First Amendment rights and discussed examples of the effects and usages of student rights across the country.

Tinker was the plaintiff in the 1969 Supreme Court case of Tinker v Des Moines, which produced a ruling that established what is known to high school journalists as the Tinker Standard: “freedom of speech does not end at the schoolhouse gate.”
