Two Revere Middle School (RMS) teachers joined the high school swim team coaching staff to help out the team during the 2024-2025 season.
The Revere High School (RHS) swim team welcomed Veronica and Russ Neubert as assistant coaches on the team this year. They joined following a vacancy left in the coaching staff after last season. Russ Neubert teaches 8th grade science and is the head coach of the RMS Cross Country team. Veronica Neubert teaches French and Spanish at RMS, and is one of the new coaches. In addition to her teaching life she is involved in a variety of sports.
“I am the assistant cross-country coach for RMS, and I teach dance and yoga outside of school,” Neubert said.
Anne Lockridge is the head coach of the swim team, and is ready for the season. She has been teaching 8th grade English at RMS for three years. She has known the Neuberts since she started teaching at the middle school and knows their capabilities as coaches.
“They’re great cross-country coaches, great teachers as well, so it was just a natural fit for them to join our staff,” Lockridge said.
Despite the Neuberts’ busy schedule they were not afraid to jump in and help out when it came to the swim team. They saw an opportunity to contribute to the team and did not hesitate to get involved.
“It was interesting because my son wanted to join the swim team. At the parent meeting Coach Lockridge was saying how they needed help, and I said, well, I’m willing to help, and so it kind of just happened that way,” Veronica Neubert said.
Inspired by their son’s interest in the team, the Neuberts decided to become coaches and are ready to step up and coach the growing team.
“We have heard that this is the largest swim team Revere has had in history, which is awesome. It’s great to see a lot of new swimmers coming out, and it’s really nice to see the talent we already have. So, I’m looking forward to a great season,” Veronica Neubert said.
Although the Neuberts are new to the staff they are already making an impact on the team. Both the coaching staff and the swimmers are thrilled to have the new coaches.
RHS junior John Shockey is a student athlete on the swim team who has been on the team since his freshman year. He has seen first hand how the Neuberts help the program.
“The coaches help out new swimmers and overall they’re just a great addition to the program,” Shockey said.
The team has taken the change well and has quickly adjusted to new coaches. Their coaching styles have made it easy for the athletes to adapt and improve.
“Yeah, the kids respond really well to both of their coaching styles. The parents, myself and my other assistant, Chris Morris, are really excited to have them there,” Lockridge said.
As the swim season continues, the Neuberts look forward to coaching the team as they continue to grow.
