With Revere High School’s (RHS) track season approaching, Coach D’Amico and the other athletes selected six upperclassmen as captains. The senior captains are Anthony DeRubeis, Tyler Shamp, Joe Sunkin, John Anand, Paul Torma, and Donovan Farrow with each captain leading a different area of the track team.
DeRubeis and his family moved to Copley when he was still a baby with his parents. DeRubeis grew up involved in many activities such as playing baseball, competing in taekwondo and running track and cross country. He also enjoys spending time with his younger brother and sister. Today, he still runs cross country and track and he is a captain of both teams. DeRubeis is also in the National Honor Society because of his academic merits, and he enjoys playing electric guitar or hanging out with friends in his free time. His parents got him interested in rock music, and when they saw a sign on the road promoting guitar lessons they signed DeRubeis up, and he has been getting better ever since. DeRubeis now posts videos of him playing his guitar to different rock songs on TikTok. In the future, DeRubeis plans to attend Ohio State University to study mechanical engineering because he was interested in many of the concepts in his physics class at RHS. DeRubeis said his favorite food is spaghetti.

Torma has lived here his whole life with his parents and two older siblings. The Torma family owns and runs Country Maid Ice Cream and Orchard in Richfield, where they sell and produce ice cream. His whole family is interested in the outdoors which has led them to try many different activities. Torma himself enjoys rock climbing, snowboarding, hiking, and camping. He also runs cross country and track where his coaches have vouched for his work ethic and positive attitude. Those qualities led Torma to being selected as a captain on the track team this year. Leadership roles are not rare for him, however; Torma is also a drum major for the marching band where he leads his peers through their routine. Torma is also a captain for Mock Trial who placed 5th place in state competition. He also has a passion for Formula 1 racing. He found himself watching the races in his free time and sometimes even goes to watch junior Joseph Novosielski race in competitions. Instead of racing himself, Torma said that he would rather work on the cars which led to his collegiate interests. He is hoping to go to Ohio State for either mechanical or aerospace engineering to expand on that passion. Torma’s favorite food is chicken alfredo, but he strongly suggests trying Country Maid’s ice cream.
Anand also grew up in the area with his older brother and two parents. Anand really values his older brother for setting an example for him. He said that his older brother exhibited perseverance and integrity daily and he hopes he can carry himself like his brother did. Also like his brother, Anand enjoys challenges. He joined the track team thinking that it would be a fun challenge, and there Coach Vantrease sparked an interest in throwing in him. He is now the captain of the RHS throwing team and works hard at his craft. Outside of track, Anand likes hanging out with friends, going to the gym, and working on cybersecurity challenges or engineering projects. He has also helped tutor students at Revere and has helped lead community-based projects through Civil Air Patrol, where he helped educate people about aerospace. Raising Cane’s is Anand’s favorite restaurant.

Growing up, Shamp loved being outside. He recounted spending hours hunting for frogs and other creatures such as salamanders in a nearby creek. Those animals would end up in Shamp’s aquarium where he would raise them, although he mentioned that they ate each other on a regular basis. When Shamp was away from the creek, he was still outside and hiking with his father and grandfather. They would later get Shamp into working on cars and lawn mowers, which is now one of his favorite pastimes. Shamp spends time making adjustments and replacements to the Mustang in his garage. He also spends his time collecting records and playing music himself; sometimes he paints album covers or music labels in his spare time. Still Shamp finds time to volunteer at his church where he helps with spring cleanings and he also does concessions at middle school track meets. Shamp gets his favorite chicken caesar salad from Dewey’s.

Farrow fell in love with music at a young age. He said music has been in his life since elementary school. His great grandmother gave him a piano, and his grandfather gave him a guitar, and he loves playing both. In fact, Farrow plays the piano at his church each Sunday. Along with the music, Farrow also enjoys his camera work. He attends many RHS sporting events where he takes pictures or videos of the environment and teams. He said he enjoys being able to tell stories through his camera and unique perspective. Oftentimes, Farrow combines music and cinematography into videos that he posts on his social media accounts. Farrow also said he enjoys playing games like Call of Duty and watching movies in his free time. He is also involved in Project Planet where he helps pick up waste in his area. Raising Cane’s is also a favorite of his, but he said that his favorite single dish is a donut.

Sunkin grew up in a family of six and really appreciates the bond he has with his family. He said that they, along with his girlfriend, help support him through any tough times. Sunkin’s friends and family have taught him about hard work and not giving up and he is grateful for that. In his free time Sunkin enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, playing basketball, and working out. He said that pushing himself to get better is really enjoyable for him and he loves the process of improvement. His love for basketball stretches further however as Sunkin also helps coach youth players when he can. Sunkin said he wants to be a role model for them, and that seeing them improve is one of the best feelings in the world. His favorite foods are pizza and Chipotle burritos.
