Varsity men’s basketball team wins district title

Revere Men’s basketball won its first ever district title 46 – 45 against Warrensville Heights on a buzzer beater.

Down by two with only a few seconds left in the game, senior Pete Nance passed the ball to wide open Chris Richardson, who banked a three off of the backboard to win the game. Following the sound of the buzzer Richardson’s teammates, as well as the fans stormed the court in celebration.

Richardson spoke about how he felt after making the shot.

“It’s a great feeling to know that I played a big role in bringing home Revere’s first ever District Basketball Championship; it feels great to be a part of history,” Richardson said.

Senior Owen Dame, who added six points, spoke about the end of the game.

“We just stayed calm and pressed.  As soon as we got some energy, we started rolling, and the nine point lead with 2:30 left soon became a two point game,” Dame said.

Minutemen coach Dean Rahas commented on the importance or the district championship to his players.

“You’re playing for a district championship, and the guys knew they had to make something happen. They wanted the district championship more than anything,” Rahas said.

Rahas has coached at Revere for 6 years and has brought Revere to the district finals two other times where they lost to Saint Edwards.

“It’s the first district championship in Revere history. So that’s pretty special. . . . I felt like someone was [going to] wake me up [the next day] and tell me it didn’t happen,” Rahas said.

Despite their loss to Saint Vincent Saint Mary in the sweet sixteen, the Revere players are determined to go back next year.

“I know we came up short this year in the playoffs but I’m hungry and I know the rest of my guys are hungry to make history once again next year,” Richardson said.
