Revere High School’s fall sports student athletes have earned awards at the Suburban League level and at the State level.

Revere’s roster of fall sports includes the following: volleyball, women’s golf, women’s tennis, cheerleading, women’s cross country, men’s cross country, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, football and men’s golf. Athletic Director Tom McKinnon discussed the awards there are and how various groups choose recipients.

“There is a meeting of coaches and [they] vote on first team, second team and honorable mentions. [The coaches] also vote on coach of the year, and the suburban league player of the year. Individual sports are usually coach-discretion such as MVP, [they] are all determined by coaches. District and All-Ohio awards are voted on by the press,” McKinnon said.

Sophomore Armani Shepherd played on the women’s golf team and got district qualifier recognition in addition to first team award. She explained what a district qualifier and first is in women’s golf.

“District qualifier is the four individuals that made it out of Suburban League with the best score and they go to Districts. First team is the six top players that had the best overall score from the entire year,” Shepherd said.

Senior Jon Dye played for the men’s golf team and made second team, he explained what first and second team means in men’s golf.

“There are two all-League teams, first and second. The top eight players in the league are on first team. The next 8 are on second team,” Dye said.

He went on to explain the process of determining rankings.

“The rankings are based on scores in league matches throughout the year,” Dye said.

Senior Tori Holvey earned All-Suburban honorable mention. She thinks her success this season is due to her mindset and training. She finished 31st in the district competition out of 115 runners.

“I went into the season with a different mindset knowing it was my last season. I trained every day over the summer and my teammates pushed me to be better,” Holvey said.

Junior Eric Douville transferred to Revere High School in early July. He moved here from a large school in Minnesota. Douville believes part of his success is due to how he was welcomed to the school by his teammates.

“The football program here is more of a family. I think it is partially due to the fact that there are so many less players on the team. Here everybody welcomed me with open arms,” Douville said.
