The Revere High School men’s soccer team has launched into their season and hopes to win their second state championship in four years.

Nathan Albert and Zane VanFossen, co-captains and Varsity seniors, lead the team this year. Albert, who has played soccer since kindergarten, talked about the strengths of this year’s team.

“We are a much more technical team [than last year]. We can move the ball around really well in the [field] . . . we’re a very skillful and talented team,” Albert said.

Varsity Coach Nick DePompei described the team’s challenges and how they plan to overcome them.

“[Our weaknesses are] just our experience at this point. [The team] will gain more and more experience as the season goes on. [After every game], we go to the drawing board and see what we need to improve, because we know who we will come up against at the end of October and November,” DePompei said.

Fellow senior Matthew Giltner commented upon the differences between last year’s team and this year’s team.

“We lost key players [last year], but the underclassmen are stepping up. Our seniors are leading,” Giltner said.

The team’s record so far this season is 6-3-2. The seniors this year include Albert, Giltner, Bryce Harding, Joel Harding, Constantine Papas, Garrett Shaffer, Nathan Stiles, and VanFossen. The team’s next game will take place on Thursday, September 29 at home against Cardinal Mooney High School.
