Revere men’s lacrosse team participates in Kent tournament

The Revere Men’s Lacrosse team competed in a preseason tournament hosted by a Kent State University planning class this November.

The tournament was put on by an event planning class that has to host three events throughout the year.

John Idone, the event director of the Fall Brawl, explained the purpose of the tournament and who usually participates in the tournament.

“It’s a seven-on-seven tournament used to help high school players work on their skills… Division 1 and Division 2 schools usually are the teams to participate,” Idone said.

Nick Pappas, four year head coach of the men’s lacrosse team, explained why he has his team participate in this tournament every fall and what he hopes to accomplish in the Fall Brawl.

“It’s great for offseason development.  [The team] develops chemistry before the season starts… exposing the younger guys to the speed of play while developing team chemistry before the season,” Pappas said.

Pappas added that he is having practices for the players the week leading up to the tournament.

“We hold five practices, we try to work it around the finals schedule.  The practices will mainly be to develop their skills,” Pappas said.

Senior defender Mason Wendland explained how the tournament helped the team last season.

“We did well last year, it gave [upperclassmen and coaches] a good baseline and a better idea of where the team is at,” Wendland said.

Wendland also voiced his goals for his players in the tournament.

“[I hope that we] win games and establish good team chemistry.  For the upperclassmen, we get a feel for the team before the season starts,” Wendland said.

The Minutemen participated in the tournament the weekend of November 15th and finished with a record of 4-1.
