Led by senior captains, the Revere High School Women’s Soccer team looks to continue their athletic success by focusing on cooperation and hard work.

The team has three seniors this year: Dani Buser, Caroline Edwards and Crystal Mortimer, all of whom are captains. Buser has played soccer since she was in preschool; Edwards and Mortimer both started playing soccer in kindergarten. Buser explained that the team expects to continue their playoff streak this year.

“I think we will make it pretty far, we have the potential to make it to districts or regionals,” Buser said.

Throughout the off-season, the team worked hard and participated in off-season tournaments at Kent State and Columbus. Edwards commented on the importance of the tournaments for the season.

“[The tournaments] were a building block, we looked for chemistry and possible lineups [for the season],” Edwards said.

Buser explained that tournaments prepared them for the season, and Mortimer voiced that the team has made a lot of progress since the off-season.

Mortimer and Edwards both agreed that the regimen the team undergoes prepares them for their games. Mortimer gave a general routine for the team’s practices.

“We practice for one and a half hours, run for twenty minutes, then we will do possession drills,” Mortimer said.

Edwards talked of the team’s focus on bettering fundamentals during practice.

“We have a possession or passing game, and then we transition into more complex drills. We will play shooting games to help goal keepers, often times we end with a full field scrimmage,” Edwards said.

Along with a winning mindset, the team also works to create a family environment where players are very close. Buser mentioned that the players have a tradition where they sing the national anthem on the way home from away games.

Edwards expressed her pride in her team and that she loves the pressure of an intense game under the lights.

Mortimer explained that the team’s main rivals are Jackson, Highland, and Copley. The team finished the regular season with a record of 6-6-3, and they play in the district finals on Thursday, October 29.
