The Revere High School Varsity Football team has worked on improving young talent and maintaining a positive attitude as they met their 2015 schedule.

The team has posted wins against Nomandy, Valley Forge and Warrensville Heights. Coupled with stout defensive performances and a strong running game, the team posted these victories and gave Minutemen fans a glimpse at a bright future for the program.

Defensive line coach Lyle Kniep has been coaching for four years at Revere. He talked about how the team is working on bettering themselves on a week-to-week basis.

Junior Quarterback AJ Hughes discussed the strengths of the team this year, which include the players’ friendly dynamic. He also mentioned an area of improvement that he would like to ameliorate.

“We have a lot of talent, and I think we play well together as a team. It’s a close bond, everyone is friends with everyone. We need to be better overall at staying focused on what we need to get done that week,” Hughes said.

In preparing for upcoming games, the team works on specific drills to help prepare themselves for whichever team they are facing in the upcoming week. Nate Predojev talked of the specific skills the team works to improve.

“We regularly work on tackling stations to improve our technique week after week and we perfect our special teams every practice,” Predojev said.

Junior Nicholas Kelly noted how this season will affect the team’s ability in the future.

“[Positives include] all the juniors that are playing. Next year we’ll have more experience, cooperate better, and have better connections with each other,” Kelly said.

Sophomore Conor Head views this year as preparation for next year’s team as well, and he believes the older players will have an impact on the next season.

“We have a lot of juniors and sophomores gaining experiences this year, which hopefully will transfer into next year,” Head said.

Currently the team has a 3-6 record and faces Barberton in their final game of the season. The seniors this year include Parker Bonfiglio, Hunter Bridgeman, Chris Crouse, Joe Gabel, Nick Johnson, Nick Kungli, Paul Molke, Predojev, Tom Soukup, Thomas Tiedt, Ty Vanliew and Mason Wendland. The team’s final game will take place on Friday, October 30.
