RHS senior takes advantage of opportunity, participates in The Europe Cup

A Revere softball player earned the opportunity to represent the United States in The Europe Cup, which took place in locations throughout the Netherlands.

Revere senior and Varsity member of the women’s softball team Demi Boyasiz was selected to play in the Europe Cup, which ran from January 14th to 21st. Boyazis was selected after performing in a college showcase in South Carolina this past fall. Her team included athletes from all over the country, many of whom had never played together prior to the tournament.

Boyazis discussed which teams she played against, as well as the differences playing with international softball teams as opposed to U.S. softball teams.

“We played France, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy and other US teams. One of the biggest differences that I noticed was that many of these athletes on their national softball teams were much older then we [were]. I got a chance to play against national softball players that used to play in the olympics, but because it is no longer an olympic sport they play in tournaments like the Europe Cup for an opportunity to play strong international teams like the US,” Boyazis said.

Boyazis explained the highlights of her trip, and the best experience she encountered while in Europe.

“It was an amazing experience. I had a chance to play with some elite players from different countries. My favorite part was interacting with all of the different countries and their cultures. It was amazing how although everyone spoke different languages, we were able to communicate and come together to play a sport that we all have a passion for,” Boyazis said.

Third year Revere softball coach Gina Hartranft has coached Boyasiz throughout her high school career, and described her as a player.

“Demi is a competitor. She is very determined and focused when she’s on the field. She is the player you want on the mound when the game is on the line because she will give you everything she has,” Hartranft said.

Hartranft also mentioned Boyazis’s role as a leader on the Revere team, which helped in the selection of Boyasiz for the Europe Cup.

“Demi is a leader and I look for that even more this year being a senior. I expect her to be one of our captains,” Hartranft said.

Revere junior and three year member of the women’s softball team Hailey Hujer described some of the positive aspects of Boyasiz’s play that led to her selection for the Europe Cup.

“I would describe Demi as competitive and aggressive. She is a lot of fun and always puts the team in a good mood. She has a lot of experience and can take control of team,” Hujer said.

Boyazis will continue her softball career with Revere women’s team this spring. The team’s first game will take place in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on March 28th.
