Men’s basketball team strives to meet season’s goals

After losing only one senior, the men’s basketball team returns with six letter winners and looks to play and win as a team rather than as individuals.

The team has three seniors, Dylan Geig, Jordan Holtkamp and Dylan Seikel. Other returning letter winners include juniors Zach Lalkowski and Dezmond Rozek, and sophomore Teddy Hughes. Going into his twelfth year coaching, former two-time Suburban League Coach of the Year Dean Rahas talked about the team’s potential going into this season.

“There is potential to have a good season, but it all depends on hard work, how we come together and if we are going to be focused each and every day for practice and games,” Rahas said.

Two-year letter winner Holtkamp gave his view on the team going into the winter.

“I’m really confident about our team this year. We have four returning starters and have been working really hard and playing well together,” Holkamp said.

One year letter winner Seikel described about the way he feels the Minutemen will play this year.

“We will be competitive and strong while playing smart and poised basketball. We intend to be physical and play hard all the time,” Seikel said.

Rahas noted the team’s off-season work.

“We have gone to team camps, played in some shoot outs, and had open gym. [Also], we got in the weight room in the fall,” Rahas said.

Rahas also talked about goals. He emphasized that the team goals are more important than individual goals.

“Every year we always want to win the league and the district championship… Rather than focusing on individual goals, we focus on team goals and just playing hard and smart,” Rahas said.

Seikel and Holtkamp stated the same goals, as well as highlighted the desire to beat Copley to win back the golden ball. Both players began in the Revere basketball program when they were young. Holtkamp commented on his experience.

“[Playing with Revere] has been great. The few years I have started Varsity have been what some would call ‘rebuilding years’ but I’ve loved every second of it,” Holtkamp said.

The team takes on Green in their fourth league game of the year at home on December 20 at 7:30.
