Girls’ basketball shoots for Suburban League Championship

The Revere girls’ basketball team is building on last year’s success to reach their goals of Suburban League and District Championships.

Last year, the girls’ basketball team finished in second place in the Suburban League behind Wadsworth, while also having a fifteen win season. The team looks to improve from last year and reach unmarked achievements for the program. Due to the success from last year, the team will compete this year against more difficult teams in hopes developing the program. Now, being led by seniors Marissa Harbath, Kaylyn Roose and Dani Baker, the team looks advance from last season by winning the league title and becoming District Champions. With a strong group of underclassmen, the team hopes to develop into a program of consistent success. Todd Casey, assistant coach, commented on what he hopes for this season.

“One thing we hope to obtain is more respect in the league and area,” Casey said.

Casey also explained the goals he hopes the team will accomplish this year.

“A goal of ours is to compete for a league championship and win a District Championship which has never been done in school history,” Casey said.

Six year head coach, Kevin Verde commented on the goal of carrying last year’s success into this year.

“Last year we showed a lot of will to win and get better. The girls are now hungry to show that they have worked hard,” Verde said.

Verde discussed the amount of playing time that last year’s freshmen were given and how it was a step up from the middle school level.

“Last year was a feeling out process with young players competing at a level they never have before,” Verde said.

Senior Marissa Harbath talked about how she helps the team in practice and the importance of maintaining an overall team focus to achieve the goals of league and district champions.

“I have helped by always going 100% in practice. We all want to reach the common goal,” Harbath said.

Camryn Brown, a sophomore who earned All-Ohio Honorable Mention last year, elaborated on her attitude in practice towards team unity and development.

“I hope to make the team better in order to help us win more games,” Brown said.

The team will be competing at the Twinsburg Fight or Flight Tournament over the winter break, opening up the tournament against Mayfield on December 22.
