The Revere High School boys’ cross country team persevered towards running at their full potential and achieving person goals through hard work and dedication.

Through leadership from the senior class of Erik Godard, Ryan Gross, Jackson Leventhal and Jordan Moul, the cross country team looked to stay on a path of continual growth and development. When it comes to the format of races, seven varsity runners competed in a 5k race, equivalent to 3.1 miles, where the top five times go into an overall team score. The team also had to be committed to running hundreds of miles throughout the season and attending early morning practices.

When it comes to improvement, seven year Revere head coach David Parry focuses on evolving each athlete’s running ability.

“Every year I like to see individual growth and development on the team,” Parry said.

Parry noted that he treats every runner as an individual and said that he hopes to “develop athletic ability and have them reach their full potential.” Jordan Moul, a senior, commented on Parry’s intense style of practice.

“If you are going to run for Parry, you need to be conditioned,” Moul said.

Coach Parry also expects a great deal of work out of his runners, even in the off-season. He said that he has his athletes running “400 mile summers and 60 mile weeks in season in order to form a base.”

On Fridays, Parry chooses to schedule morning practices rather than having the team run after school. Parry said his strategy behind this is to allow the team to be able to go home and have an open Friday night to make plans and cheer on other Revere sports teams. Gross, who has recovered from a leg injury in hopes of running in college, commented on the idea of Friday morning practices.

“It gives you the opportunity to do something you want in the evening,” Gross said.

Looking toward the future,, Parry has developed high expectations for the underclassmen runners. He said that these young runners are “going to be a force to be reckoned with” and said that they are an “exciting and talented group.”

With the season winding down seniors Erik Godard and Jordan Moul each reached the all-time top 30 runners list with Godard at 12 and Moul at 27. Godard and Moul also each won placing awards at Brecksville and Berkshire. Also, Joel Niemi reached the time of 18:10, one of the fastest for freshman in the area. Parry commented on the team’s improvement as a whole. He said the team is “getting faster every week” and experiencing “amazing drops in time.”

The team recently competed in the Suburban League Meet, taking fifth place. Erik Godard and Jordan Moul each earned second team all-league. Nick Jones earned an Honorable Mention. Additionally, Godard took 17th at the district competition.
