The Revere Local School District welcomed a new superintendent for the 2024-2025 school year, Dan White. White, formerly a superintendent of the Keystone Local School District, desires to work with the Revere community to achieve a high standard of excellence.
“There is just a level of excellence of Revere that you do not get at every school district. It’s just a great opportunity,” said White.
White said that the high expectations at Revere are balanced with the support to help achieve it.
“One thing that has really stood out to me right away is the parent involvement here. Parents are highly engaged. I think it’s great that to the benefit of our community for educators, for our students, having highly involved parents. Tons of research will support this. Students do better academically when parents are more involved,” said White.
Natalie Orr-Andrea, the president of the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) described how the PTSA, the principal and the superintendent all work together.
“We work with the superintendent, Mr. Faris and the guidance department. They all attend our meetings. We’re able to work through different issues that come up or ask questions of the administrators so that parents understand what’s going on,” Orr-Andrea said.
Orr-Andrea said that parents care about a wide variety of issues, but there are some shared priorities.
“Everyone wants to know our students are being supported and that our students have access to equitable resources. I think that we want to know that our students are safe when they’re at school,” Orr-Andrea said.
In light of the recent mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, White also spoke on the topic of safety. White said that the District’s Safety Committee has been very focused on ensuring that students are safe.
“Safety is a top concern. The Board of Education is looking at a second SRO [School Resource Officer] in collaboration with the local government, so it’s a top priority,” White said.
Doug Faris, the newly-appointed principal of Revere High School, spoke on the administration’s goals to further support students’ learning ability, social life and life after high school.
“What we hope to do is increase our students’ durable skill capacity and have a better understanding of what our students need. In addition to academics and in addition to emotional support, how we can help our students grow as people that are confident and ready for their next steps, whether that’s the workforce or college or a career in the military,” Faris said.
Faris said that he and White plan to work together to accomplish this goal, and how White’s growing knowledge of the district will help that.
“The school superintendent is the leader of the District, so he works with other members of the central office and the principals in each building to ensure that the kind of delivery of instruction and the student experiences is happening. So we work with Mr. White, meet monthly and talk often. He certainly has an understanding of what’s going on here and continues to develop that each and every day,” Faris said.
White said that the parent and administration action shows the support and care for the students’ education.
“One thing that is extremely clear in our community is that we are really passionate about our children at every level, and we want every single child to be successful,” White said.
