The Revere High School (RHS) swim team hosted a fundraiser at Swensons to raise money for gear, awards, and a team banquet.
The event, held on Tuesday, September 12th between 5:00 and 8:00 pm, raised almost 300 dollars for the swim team. According to the swim team’s head coach, Annie Lochridge, the funds made by the fundraiser will go towards team T-shirts, timers, and a team banquet.
“Just as with any team I think proper equipment will help. Things like team T-shirts and team uniforms that brings together the team and gives them a sense of unity,” Lochridge said.
Lochridge hopes to eventually raise enough money to fund more expensive equipment: a scoreboard and a new record board. While Lochridge says that proper equipment is important for a team, this fundraiser is also building team spirit.
“In addition this is an opportunity for our team to come together towards a common goal, we work in the pool all the time and in the weight room all the time together, but this is another opportunity for us to work together towards a goal,” Lochridge said.
The team’s four team captains: Brody Bard, Kayla Smith, Julia Grandon and Peter Schockey, put together this fundraiser. Grandon spoke on the primary goals of the event.
“The main goal is just to raise money for the team for funding in the future,” Grandon said.
Grandon got the idea from the Firestone swim team’s event, which took place a few months prior. Due to this, they contacted Swensons to make an arrangement with them for a Revere Swim Fundraiser.
Swensons’ General Manager Julia Peteya spoke about this arrangement and the topic of fundraising in general.
Peteya said, “We have seen a lot of support from Revere and other communities in Montrose.” “One of the biggest things that we want is to contribute to our communities.”
Following the fundraiser, the Revere swim team posted on X (formally known as Twitter), thanking the community for their support in coming out to Swensons, and making the fundraiser a success.
