A class of 2020 Revere graduate and current Revere board member donated his entire board salary to the Revere Schools Foundation and to a student-led fundraiser.

Before his senior year started, Mike Kahoe decided to run for a position on Revere’s Board of Education. Upon winning the election, Kahoe pledged to donate his entire board salary to causes that support the school system. On February 23rd, Kahoe announced he would fulfill his promise, donating his salary to the Revere Schools Foundation and to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Revere Schools Foundation was the first group Kahoe pledged to donate to.

“From the beginning, I said I would donate to the Revere Schools Foundation. They do a lot of great things for our community: from scholarships for kids to protecting them and helping with social and emotional health,” Kahoe said.

Jason DiLauro started the Revere Schools Foundation (RSF) in order to acquire helpful tools the school had not already possessed. RSF is responsible for the Student Resource Officers and numerous other parts of the school district. Dilauro talked about the kind of character Kahoe presented.

“It is a blessing. It is one of those things that show the integrity of Mike and that he was a great student, a great leader. For someone to have that fun personality and also care enough to support the school and the students the way he does, it shows a lot of heart,” DiLauro said.

The class of 2020 graduate also donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Kahoe noticed Revere junior Lawrence Saltis leading his own campaign and talked about how he felt about students giving back.

“When I saw that Lawrence Saltis was able to raise $25,000 with a team of Revere students, I was inspired. It’s really amazing what they had done, and me donating was just a way to have a tiny part in what they were able to accomplish,” Kahoe said.

Saltis was thankful for Kahoe’s efforts. His campaign recently ended after his team raised $7,000 over their goal. Saltis had this to say about Kahoe.

“We are super thankful for [Kahoe]. He is someone for kids to look up to, and even adults to look at. It was actually one of our biggest donations we received. We are super thankful for Mike,” Saltis said.

Kahoe is glad to give back to the school he has been a part of throughout his life. He stated giving back is a proud accomplishment, and hopes to push Revere to be even more prestigious.

“I have grown up here my entire life, so Revere will always be special to me. It is already a great school and community. My goal is to continue that upward trajectory,” Kahoe stated.
