Four seniors earn title of Commended Scholar

Last school year, the junior class took the PSAT and four seniors earned the title of Commended Scholar by achieving high marks on their tests.

There are different levels of achievement when it comes to the PSAT. The top ten students are National Merit Semifinalists and after the ten there are Commended Scholars. Students who earned these four scores are Joe Restivo, Andrew Cooke, Eric An and Ben Hunt.

While preparing for the PSAT, students use different methods of studying. Andrew Cooke explained how he prepared for the test.

“I used my studying for the ACT to help with the PSAT as well as looking up how the PSAT functions and this for it online,” Cooke said.

This award is recognized by colleges throughout the nation.Eric  An commented on what he thinks this award helped him achieve.

“I think this award will help me achieve my goals by showing my strong emphasis on my academics,” An said.

Restivo also commented on what he thinks the award will show him.

“I hope colleges see it and give me a little bit more consideration than someone who hasn’t so that I can get into the school that I want,” Restivo said.

Cooke will attend Colgate University and will play soccer next fall, while Restivo, An and Hunt are still undecided on their schooling.
