Two Revere High School teachers win Excellence Award

Two Revere High School teachers won this year’s Teachers Excellence Award after being nominated by students for their performance in class.

Language Arts teacher Meghan Lovaty and math teacher Stephanie Mason won this year’s Excellence Awards provided by the Kostoff family. The two teachers receive $500 each as a prize for the award, which they can spend on equipment and other materials for their classrooms. Lovaty described her reaction after finding out she won the award.

“I was very surprised and very appreciative that I won the award. I think it is very nice that the Kostoff family shows they appreciate teachers  and that they allow students to show how much they appreciate the teachers,” Lovaty said.

One of the reasons teachers win the award is their ability to connect with the students. Mason explains how she does this.

“I try to treat them and look out for them like I do my own children,” Mason said.

It is the Kostoff Family that provides the award. Senior Matthew Kostoff, tells how and why his family got involved with the excellence Award.

“It started eleven years ago. My mom did it because she used to be a teacher, so she wanted to give teachers an excellence award. I think she did it because she knows what it is like to be a teacher and how it feels to be awarded,” Kostoff said.

Lovaty already has ideas for what she wants to spend the prize of the award on.

“The library has [a] few things they would like to purchase. I am going to purchase a few audio recordings of novels that we read, and some extra iPad chargers,” Lovaty said.

Mason does not know yet what she will do with the money but is thinking about pens for the students for their iPads.
