What if?

The Revere Local School District is taking into consideration many possible beneficial facilities for the new school buildings for the district.

A committee is brainstorming many possibilities of facilities to include in the building plans for the new schools. According to Revere Local School District superintendent Matthew Montgomery, change is definitely coming for Revere. As ideas formulate, possibilities for the new building come into mind.

“There are so many variables and there is so much change on the horizon that I am very excited to see how the plan plays out and to see how it benefits not only the students but the community as a whole . . . . [Some options] we have considered are having private study rooms just for students and even whiteboards in the hallways to help students study,” Montgomery said.

Swim team members at Revere have proposed an idea for an on-site natatorium to be included into the new building plans. Senior and swim team member Clayton Fink voiced that an on-site facility would have benefits.

“Having easy access to a natatorium would be invaluable to the swim team . . . . If we had a natatorium any Revere student could use it. It could be used for lifeguard training or for club teams,” Fink said.

Revere High School junior and swim team captain Alec Johnson added some benefits of having a natatorium.

“The pool could serve the community by providing a home for masters’ swimming (such as tri-athletes). It could also be used by older community residents by offering aqua fitness classes. The pool could become an important addition to training for other sports teams as well,” Johnson said.

Montgomery mentioned why a natatorium is a potential option for the new school.

“I think people just have an interest in supporting the swimming programs and they very much like the idea of having our own pool on site so we do not have to use outside locations to support our swimming programs. That really peaks people’s interest to help the school in any way possible,” Montgomery said.

Montgomery explained that the natatorium is not currently part of the plan for the new high school, but that many ideas are still circulating through the brainstorming process. As time goes on, the discussions about these topics could change. Will a pool be part of the final plan? Time will tell.
