NHS hosts a masquerade-themed dance

The National Honor Society (NHS) will host a winter dance for the second year in a row to raise money for its scholarship program.

The members of NHS have planned the dance since the first week back after winter break. As this is the second year the group has held the dance, they have made several adjustments to make the dance more successful. Senior Nick Jones explained that this year’s dance will be a Sadie Hawkins, in which girls ask guys. Jones voiced his excitement about the idea of a Sadie Hawkins.

“We were very excited about the idea because in past years people have brought up the idea of doing that but it never actually happened,” Jones said.

Senior Caroline Edwards explained that the attire is semi-formal, meaning people have flexibility on what to wear.

“We do not want people spending tons of money on suits and dresses for the dance but at the same time we do not want it to be too casual,” Edwards said.

The theme for this year’s NHS dance will be a Mardi Gras Masquerade. Members of NHS are working to have more activities at the dance, including a mask contest. The group will talk to Revere High School principal Phil King to get more information on the rules of the masks that are and are not allowed. The masks cannot cover one’s full face. NHS students are going to make sure attendees understand this requirement.

NHS advisor Jason Milczewski explained why NHS believes that this year’s dance will be a success.

“We really think it will be successful because we have a lot more people in NHS and we are trying to do more things to get people interested,” Milczewski said.

Jones also explained that the group has secured the same DJ as last year, Revere alumnus Dan Kosich. The group is also working to have as much food as possible to give more an incentive to want to come. The dance will take place on March 5 from 8-11 pm. NHS will sell tickets in the cafeteria the week before the dance for $10 or $15 at the door the night of the dance. The money that the group raises will go towards the NHS scholarship program.
