Tennis team completes season with much improvement

The Revere High School Varsity went into their season looking toward competing in the American Conference, the new small school division of the old Suburban League.

Kathy Shisler has coached the team for 26 years, and she described some of the strengths on the team. Hayley Hendrickson, senior, has been the number one singles player for four years. Sammy Crisali, sophomore, is number two singles player.

Shisler mentioned how Amy Lazbin, a new freshman on the team, will be a big part of the team in the future. The Varsity team is composed of many experienced seniors.

This year has a record number for girls on the team with 26 players. Paul Fisher, Revere High School science teacher and girls JV head coach, also mentioned the team goals and how he expects the players to perform this season.

“Our goal for this season is to beat our biggest competitor Copley, who is tied with us right now,” Fisher said.

Coach Shisler explained what makes this year’s team different than last year’s team.

“We have a pretty cohesive group. They all seem to get along with each other, and they all have a good balance between school and tennis. We have a lot of good leadership, and that makes coaching this group really fun,” Shisler said.

Sammy Crisali, sophomore at Revere, 9-1 as a second singles player on the team, has been playing tennis for 10 years now.

Crisali voiced her goals for the season. “I want to become a better tennis player, physically and mentally, to get closer with my teammates and to really just have fun this season,” Crisali said.

As a two year tennis player at the high school now, Crisali recalls positive experiences.

“I definitely love getting to be able to bond with my teammates and winning most of my matches,” Crisali said.
The seniors on the team include Perrine Furet, Hendrickson, Hailey Kline, Priyanka Jain, Abigail Migdal, and Dana Suchy. The Varsity team finished wtih a record of 10-10.
