Winter sports update: week of January 9

Men’s Basketball – The team traveled to Copley High School to compete against the Indians in a rivalry game, and won 66-58. Top performers included Carson Banks leading scoring with 23 points, Baron Bania with 16, and Chris Muntean with 10. The team traveled to Kent Roosevelt High School on Tuesday and won 58-48, Mason Aquino would win Defensive Player of the Game. The team will travel to Aurora on Friday.

 

Women’s Basketball – The Lady Minuteman traveled to Copley High School to play their rivalry game on Sunday, and lost 67-35. The team traveled to Kent Roosevelt High School on Wednesday, and won 44-42. The team will travel to Twinsburg on Saturday.

 

Wrestling – Revere Middle School hosted the Jeff Suglio Memorial Minutemen Dual Tournament over the weekend. The Minutemen finished fourth out of eight teams with victories over Boardman and Cleveland Heights. The team will travel to the Bill Dies Memorial Tournament at Firestone High School this weekend.

 

Swimming and Diving – The team traveled to the Suburban League Championship at the University for Akron on Sunday. Top finishers included Abby DiSalvo winning the league in 200 free and fly, Kayla Smith as champion in 50 free and back, and the 200 free relay team of Tarini Gowda, Julia Grandon, Kayla Smith, and Abby DiSalvo. The team traveled to Copley High School to play their rivalry game on Wednesday after a stunning performance the girls team beat Copley with a score of  98-61. The boys team lost against their rivals 74-94. 

 

Indoor Track – The team traveled to Spire Institute last Thursday against twelve other schools. Top performers included a third place finish by David Anand in the 800m, Anthony DeRubeis in the 1600m, Andy Long in the 3200m, John Anand in weight throw, and Caroline Wilson in the 800m . Second place finishers included Akshay Elango in the 3200m and Ally Meixner in long jump, and first place finishers include Andrew Farrow in high jump and Kayla Kephart in high jump. The team will travel back to Spire next Thursday.
