Weight room ready for use after renovation

Renovations on the Revere High School weight room have been completed and will reopen for student athlete use in time for the start of the 2016 spring sports season.

The weight room remodeling has been a topic of discussion since the summer of 2015. Revere High School Athletic Director Bill Conley discussed the new additions to the weight room.

“First we started with demolition of the walls, taking all the old stuff down. Then we added electricity [for the ellipticals and treadmills] along the wall. After that it was painted. All the walls had been stripped and sealed then we painted it all white again. Then we added the rubberized flooring throughout the rest of the weight room that didn’t [already] have the rubberized flooring. Then we added the banners that are on the walls,” Conley said.

Interior designer and Revere parent Tamara Boyazis worked on the aesthetics of the weight room which included adding the banners throughout the new strength and conditioning center. Boyazis talked about her ideas to give the weight room a new appealing look.

“We first met with the students and we met with [art teacher Robert Pierson]. He was helping us with all the design graphics. So we all got together and instead of painting the walls we decided to do the banners because then that way we can move them as the school remodels. So we came up with the dimensions and decided on banners. Then I met with Taylor [Cherotti] who did the photography and Jenna [Cross] who did the graphics. [Cherotti] designed the Minutemen logo, the wording and also [created] the R in 3-D so it pops out,” Boyazis said.

Revere High School principal Phil King explained the reasoning behind having the weight room remodeled.

“We felt it was a need to make sure we provided a place for all of our student athletes that they could be proud of, that they want to go in and lift weights, and we do not exclude people. So we wanted to make sure that the room was huge,” King said.

The strength and conditioning center was finished done for the boosters to display at the annual Revere All Sports Booster Rally.
