Softball team travels to Myrtle Beach for tournament

The Revere High School women’s softball team went out of state to play in a six-day tournament over spring break.

The team traveled to Myrtle Beach to play in The Ripken Experience softball tournament. There were over twenty teams from other states that participated in this tournament.

Varsity sophomore softball player Allie Staats talked about what she hopes the team gained from the tournament.

“We hoped to gain an edge on the Suburban League teams by playing extra games [on account of] the good weather in Myrtle [Beach]. We also hoped to bond as a team and [we] learned to play better together,” Staats said.

Varsity sophomore softball player Kaitlyn Hagarty talked about what she thinks makes a good team.

“The key to a [successful] team is working together and bonding well, and Myrtle Beach is a great experience to help us become closer and make memories that last a lifetime,” Hagarty said.

Gina Hantraft, head coach of the Revere High School softball team, explained the other activities in which the team participated when they were not playing softball.

“We did team dinners every night [and] went to the beach for a day. We practiced and tried to build a strong team bond so when we returned we were able to focus and get ready to start league play,” Hantraft said.

Hantraft also talked about the different aspects of the team and some of the goals for this season.

“We have a team composed of experienced girls who have played together for the past few years. We have depth in many positions, strong pitching and our bats should be big. Our number one goal is to win our league,” Hantraft said.

The first game in the tournament was on March 29. Seniors on the team include Allie Dutkiewicz, Hailey Hujer, Maggie McGuigan, Jacquelyn Perot and Dana Weidinger.
