Revere photography students donate photos to auction

Revere High School Advanced Photography and Portfolio students have donated some work to the Fairlawn Chamber of Commerce’s holiday auction for various charities.

Terry Meinen, Fairlawn Chamber of Commerce representative, discussed how Revere became involved with the holiday auction.

“The holiday auction is run by the Fairlawn Chamber of Commerce to raise money for a bunch of charities. It is their big fundraiser. I knew that one of my friends, Paulette Colantone,  was a photography teacher at Revere and I asked her to donate her photos one year and she really loved the aspect of helping others so she continued to donate every year and began involving her students starting the following year,” Meinen said.

Revere High School photography teacher Paulette Colantone talked about how long she has participated in the auction. Colantone has donated her photos for four years and her students have donated their photographs for three years.

Revere High School senior and photography portfolio student Taylor Cherotti discussed the process that she went through while helping Colantone set up the donations.

“We framed and changed the sizes of the photos in order to have them available in multiple prints for interested customers. Then we set at a minimum value for the picture which went anywhere from ten dollars to seventy-five dollars. The really cool part was that all of the photos have sold,” Cherotti said.

Colantone discussed her reasoning behind having her students donate their artwork without expecting anything in return.

“The students received no grade, so it was a feel good activity of sorts. It was a donation to charity and an opportunity to show students other things that they can do with their photography. I pick only about eleven of my students’ work and donated several of my pieces simply because it is difficult to mat and print these images in so many sizes and backgrounds,” Colantone said.

The art show took place on December 14, 2015 at the Hilton. Students who participated include Mariam Boulos, Cherotti, Bobby House, Sarah Humphrey, Dana Mckinney, Ryan Nadzam, Allison Remec, Nicaela Schultz, Simon Staiger, Megan Travers and Maddy Young.
