Revere High School introduces new Book Club

The new Revere High School Book Club hosted its first meeting in December with the novel Denton Little’s Deathdate by Lance Rubin.

English teacher Meghan Lovaty and RHS librarian Cynthia Gobrogge are the teachers who have decided to start the new book club. Lovaty mentioned that the club has its meetings every second Wednesday of every month.

At the meetings, the club discussed the book they read that month and talk about what the students got out of the book. Lovaty commented on why the club was formed.

“There is an interest in reading at RHS and we wanted to give students an outlet to discuss the books they read,” Lovaty said.

Lovaty also talked about how the Book Club will help Revere as a whole.

“Students are so busy that they do not have time to sit down and simply discuss a book. Therefore, we are providing that time. That is the main reason that we are meeting in the morning,” Lovaty said.

Gobrogge explained what she hopes the club will accomplish for Revere students.

“[We] want to offer a format where students can read literature that is offered for their demographic… and try to connect with the students,” Gobrogge said.

RHS junior Claire Weihe is a member of the Book Club. She commented on what she hopes to get out of her participation in the book club.

“[I] hope to become a better reader and be able to read something other than school-related books,” Weihe said.

Lovaty mentioned that the students will be able to add the club to their resume.

The selected book for the January meeting is All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. All students are welcome to come and join the club. To join, students can sign up in the library or in Mrs. Lovaty’s room.

The Book Club’s first meeting took place on Wednesday, December 9 at 6:50 am in the IDL room.
