Cheerleaders plan to advance in state tournament
The Revere High School cheer team hopes to achieve a successful season in the Suburban League under senior leadership and veteran coaching.
This season will be head Coach Kelly Staats’ seventh year coaching Revere cheerleading. The team elected seniors Lilly Brock and Hannah Grayem as team captains. Senior Sammy Milazzo also assists Brock and Grayem in providing senior leadership for the team. After placing twelfth in the state competition last year, the team hopes to achieve even more success this season. Brock believes that the team had the potential to earn higher than twelfth place last year in the state competition.
“We have plenty of competitions for the competitive team. For the competitive team, there are a lot of competitions but the two big ones are Qualifiers and States. . . . [Our goal is to] get first at states because last year we got twelfth,” Brock said.
Third year Varsity cheerleader junior Emma Boltz agrees with her captain about the team’s respective goals this season.
“The team’s main goal this season is to win states, we are simply not satisfied with our placing last year,” Boltz said.
Staats talked about what the team must improve upon for this season to achieve their goals.
“We need to improve on everything in general, the team is a couple of minor changes away from being a state championship contender. All of the cheerleaders said that the team needed to improve on being a team, working as a unit,” Staats said.
Staats believes that her team can and will improve on the tumbling and timing aspects of their routine.
“We have to keep busy, we have to work on our tumbling and our timing everyday. That is just what we have to do if we want to compete at a high level,” Staats said.
The team will compete for the Suburban League title on November 7.
