Women’s softball team finishes their season strong
The Revere softball team prepares for another season after losing only two seniors from last year.
This year the team is led by seniors Allie Staats, Madison Lanford, Emily Azzolina, and Kaitlyn Hagarty. The past two years the girls have won the District Championship. This year they hope to expand on their past successes. Senior Allie Staats spoke about the team’s goals.
“This year we are hoping to have a three-peat and try to win the league,” Staats said.
In pursuit of a state title, the team has been preparing all winter for their season. Senior Emily Azzolina spoke about what the team has done to prepare for the season.
“We played in a winter league at Spano Dome on Sundays, and we conditioned Monday through Friday in the winter. We also had hitting practice,” Azzolina said.
The team lost deep in the playoffs last year, in the regional semi-finals. Coach Bob Mosher, who is entering his second season at Revere, said that the team has used this loss as motivation to win a state championship in 2018. Before coming to Revere, Mosher coached at Akron East, Mogadore, and Archbishop Hoban.
Even with a state championship in mind, the team is careful not to look too far into the future. Coach Mosher spoke about his goals for the season.
“[Our goal is to] win the next game,” Mosher said.
Staats has been playing softball since she was six. She described her favorite part of the sport.
“I love how we all grow so close during the season. We all get along so well, and it is so much fun playing with the team,” Staats said.
Azzolina also spoke about the closeness of the team.
“I really like how the team gets along and how we always pick each other up,” Azzolina said.
The team finishes the season with a record of 16-7 after a loss in the district semi-finals to Crestwood High School.
