Volleyball team wins district championship, makes history
Under strong leadership the Revere High School girls’ volleyball team won the district championship for the first time in school history in the 2016 season.
This historic season was coach Jenna Repp’s third year as the head coach for the Varsity team. Alongside Repp the team was led by seniors Julia Randall and Cali Amato, and senior captains Viktoria Farian and Erinn Kahoe.
Junior Cassidy Kohmann believes the team’s success did not start at the beginning of the first game, instead it started nearly a year ago in last January. The team began conditioning and lifting seven months before the home opener. Kahoe thinks some of the team’s success has to do with this.
“The offseason work Mrs. Repp [coach] put us through was very difficult, but it got us to where we needed to be to be successful,” Kahoe said.
Kohmann played her third year on varsity this season. She was a returning starter this season. Kohmann believes that Kahoe contributed to the team’s success on and off the court.
“Obviously [Kahoe is] really talented and has contributed so many kills, blocks, aces and digs to the team. But one of the biggest things Erinn contributed was her great leadership. She made sure everyone on the team was positive and giving 100 percent effort all the time. She was always there to give advice and help people improve. The team could count on Erinn to keep us focused and pumped up,” Kohmann said.
The returning players will soon begin preparing for next season. Kohmann elaborated on this preparation plan, explaining how the success of this season can affect the upcoming one.
“The offseason started the day last season ended. I think if we have an opportunity to pick up right where we left off. I know coach [Repp] will make sure we are where we need to be to compete with the best of the best next year,” Kohmann said.
Varsity coach Jenna Repp does not plan on losing a step after the loss of the strong senior class.
“[We have] a lot of big shoes to fill but our underclassman know what it takes to be successful and I think they will put in the hard work in the offseason to get better,” Repp said.
This year’s Revere High School volleyball team finished their season with an overall record of 20-6.
