Volleyball team strives for greatness under strong senior class
The Revere High School volleyball team, currently undefeated in the American Division, is fighting to make it past districts and claim a state title.
The team lost five seniors last year and is making small adjustments from that change. Revere math teacher and Varsity head coach Jenna Repp explained the change this season.
“We lost five seniors, on a team of eleven on Varsity that’s almost half the team. [It was ] definitely an adjustment for a number of girls that came in the year with little Varsity experience, but they are doing a nice job stepping up and as the season goes on we are just looking to continue building their confidence to keep improving every match,” Repp said.
Senior captain Erinn Kahoe shared her personal and team goals for this season.
“One of our goals for this season is to defend our Suburban League title. Not only do we want to win the league — we have the past two years — we want to do better. We want to win districts this year, and every practice we remind ourselves that,” Kahoe Said.
Other senior captain Viktoria Farian shared her hopes for the season.
“Every year I looked forward to playing Wadsworth because even though Copley is considered our rival, Wadsworth is probably our biggest volleyball rival, everyone on the team and I want to beat them and have a lot of motivation when we play them,” Farian said.
Repp shared what she enjoys about coaching.
“I enjoy working with the players outside the classroom, getting to know the the student athlete in a different realm. I enjoy watching the girls grow, with it being my fourth year I had these seniors as freshmen so to see them grown, mature and develop into such positive role models from freshmen to seniors is really fulfilling,” Repp said.
Farian describes personal things she does to help herself and the team.
“In the off-season I play [for a Junior Olympic team] and that helps me improve my skill level and we have training there before practices, for an hour we do lifting and agility stuff and during season and the summer we also do a lot of lifting. And I work out on my own so I work on those skills,” Farian said.
Kahoe explained how she works to helps herself and the team.
“As a team it’s important to work together and play together to win games. This is something both Farian and I try to remind ourselves and the team during those close five-set games,” Kahoe said.
Repp explained how the team has grown this year.
“I really think we’re starting to come together and play together because we graduated five seniors a lot of girls hadn’t been on the court together so the chemistry is improving, they’re getting used to playing with each other and gaining more trust with each other,” Repp said.
The team will play Kent-Roosevelt High School on Thursday, September 29 at home, and their current record is 13-4. The team is going to continue to work this season to achieve their goals of making it past districts and claiming the state title.
