Girl’s golf team posts winning record to wrap up season
The Revere High School women’s golf team ended its season with a winning record, pushing through the lack of any senior members.
RHS junior Alyssa Nicholas, a member of the team, shared the team’s goals for the season.
“Our team goals this season were to beat Copley and to get 4th place or better in the league. Our team was very young, we had no seniors. So we needed to come together and lead each other in the right direction,” Nicholas said.
Nicholas also discussed the length of this year’s schedule and how the season played out for the team.
“Our golf season is very short. It lasts about two months. We have played 12 matches this season and we won 8 and lost 4,” Nicholas said.
Nicholas is a member of the Revere Women’s basketball team, and she talked about how the two sports differ from each other.
“Golf is very different compared to other sports. I play basketball which is tough physically but golf is just so much harder because it is very mental and you don’t necessarily have people to lean on or have your back all the time. It’s much more of an individual game and can be very frustrating if you don’t play to your standards,” Nicholas said.
RHS junior and golf team veteran Elyssa Zablo shared what a golf team practice looks like.
“We practice at St. Bernard’s golf club, and a typical practice usually consists of a round of nine holes or chipping and putting practice,” Zablo said.
Zablo also elaborated on why she joined the golf team, and why she would recommend joining the golf team.
“I watched the Ryder Cup on TV and wanted to try it out. I would recommend [joining]. The team is easy to get along with and its a sport that you can play your whole life,” Zablo said.
RHS sophomore Caroline Crawford also talked about what the team needed to improve upon going forward.
“As a team, we wanted to improve our individual and team scores from the previous season, and together become a stronger team. There is always room for much improvement in an individual’s golf game, but as a team we could work on focusing during matches,” Crawford said.
Crawford also mentioned her best and worst experiences during the golf season.
“My best golf experience was shooting my lowest score of 42, and my worst was having to get up early in the summer for tournaments,” Crawford said.
