Women’s tennis team enjoys winning season
The Revere High School girls’ tennis team ended its season with events such as the Suburban League Tournament and the sectional tournament.
Head coach for the past 26 years, Kathleen Shisler explained her feelings on the girls performing admirably this year. They lost five Varsity members from last year and are much shorter on experience than prior years.
Shisler said that she hopes to have the “doubles team of [senior captain] Claire Lifke and [first singles player and junior] Hayley Hendrickson qualify for the district tournament.” Shisler noted the tough competition they will face “including the
top rated all-girls school, Hathaway Brown.”
Hendrickson, a two year MVP, commented that the team gets along really well and that they just beat Copley, securing their position at second place heading into the tournament.
Hendrickson touched on her favorite aspects of the game and why the game is so important to her.
“My favorite part is seeing my teammates win and be happy because it makes me happy,” Hendrickson said.
Senior Caroline Godard also spoke about what she learned from her time on the tennis team and why she loves to play the sport.
“Tennis taught me a lot about how to stay cool under pressure and keep my emotions in check,” Godard said. Godard said that the team events are a lot of fun because “of team support” and “fun atmosphere.”
Hendrickson and Godard also addressed the issue of team chemistry in light of 5 of the 7 Varsity players leaving last year.
“Everyone likes the team, Varsity is a lot of fun, and the doubles teams comprise of a senior and sophomore and a senior and freshman,” Godard said.
Hendrickson also noted that the team gets along really well and have “a lot of fun on the bus rides.”
Senior captain Lifke also touched on her positive experience from the tennis team and recommended the team to students looking to choose a sport next year.
“There are no cuts from JV. If anyone wants to join next season, we can help teach them,” Lifke said.
The captain of the Varsity squad is Megan Malyj and the rest of the team includes Jennifer Carson, Alliy Hansen, Sarah Shimeck and Sammy Crisalli. The Suburban League tournament was on September 20, placing third overall.
