RHS football team’s seniors motivated by new uniforms
The Varsity football team has received new uniforms as a tribute to the seniors and as motivation throughout the season.
The RHS Varsity football team currently holds a 5-4 record. At the start of the season, the team purchased new uniforms including their last names on the back of the jerseys. The 26 seniors on this year’s team agreed to invest in something that would be special for their final year. Senior Mackey Totten explained why the team wanted the new uniforms.
“We wanted our senior year to be special, and I think the jerseys accomplish that,” Totten said.
To fund the jerseys, senior player Joe Magoline’s family held a team dinner for all the players and parents on the Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. Senior Clay Erdie noted how the uniforms were funded.
“Magoline’s family sold tickets to a dinner in order to fundraise to pay for them,” Erdie said.
Erdie also noted that the team wanted something “cool” for their senior year and that the names on the back are a special touch.
Senior Zeck Lehman explained his goals for this season.
“We are realistically shooting for and going to try for the Suburban League title,” Lehman said.
Lehman also noted that he is excited to see how the team finishes this year considering the immense number of seniors. Totten noted that the team, especially the seniors, “do a lot together” to bond. From team dinners to just hanging out together, the team considers bonding important. Lehman discussed how the seniors bond off the field.
“The seniors do a bunch of [dinners] together and just be together,” Lehman said.
Lehman also commented on the fans and how their support helps the team.
“The students showing support and being at the games is a big deal. The more support we have, the better everything goes,” Lehman said.
The team finishes the season by facing Copley on Friday, October 31 on Senior Night.
