District creates wall to honor student athletes
A new Revere High School Athletic Hall of Fame to honor graduates for their high school athletic achievement is being created.
Revere social studies teacher Phil Heyn, Revere Athletic Director Bill Schumacher and Superintendent Randy Boroff spearheaded The Athletic Hall of Fame into existence. By picking up a nomination form at the Revere athletic office, Athletes can be nominated for the Hall of Fame. Boroff talked about how the nominees will be displayed after they are inducted.
“A wall of fame [somewhere in the high school] is the plan, [but a location has not been finalized],” Boroff said.
Heyn talked about how the nominees will be selected and who will be on the selection committee.
“The Hall of Fame Committee will evaluate the nominees, openly discuss their qualifications and then vote. The Hall of Fame committee will include the athletic director, the principal, the Revere School Board president, a coach of a male sport, a coach of a female sport and the Revere All-Sports Booster Club,” Heyn said.
Heyn mentioned the number of inductees the Hall of Fame is expected to select this year.
“We are looking at quality rather than quantity, so there is no minimum number of inductees this year however, the maximum number is twelve in the first three years and then six in subsequent years,” Heyn said.
Athletic Director Bill Schumacher also stated the goals he expects the Hall of Fame to achieve.
“This year, thanks to Heyn, [The Hall of Fame] has become a reality. It’s an opportunity to honor athletes who performed here at Revere High School who have been nominated by friends and family,” Schumacher said.
Nominations for the Revere Athletic Hall of Fame can be submitted on the Revere website and are due April 30.
