Summer practices benefit the football team, improve record
The Revere High School Varsity football team frequently practiced over the summer to improve their skills and prepare for the current season.
The football team officially started practicing on August 5. Before this date, the team had ten practices between June 1 and July 3. Before the official practices, the team had optional lifting and conditioning practices every weekday. Receiver, cornerback and running back for the varsity team, Everett McGregor, talked about the seven on seven matches.
“Seven on seven’s helped develop what we are trying to do this year,” McGregor said.
The practices consisted of basic offensive, defensive and special teams training, which sharpened the players’ skills both individually and as a team. Senior Joe Pearl plays as wide receiver and a safety for the team. He talked about improvements that should be made for the current season.
“The football team should act as role models for the community and represent Revere in a positive way,” Pearl said.
When questioned about goals for the team this season, Varsity football head coach, Mike Murphey, voiced that he would like the team to play at a certain pace.
“We want to play at a certain tempo that allows us to push the pace and keep in-tune,” Murphey said.
Hunter Krauth, a varsity linebacker and guard, discussed how the summer training is paying off for the team.
“Summer training helped us most with the precision of our plays. Because we ran the plays so many times, it became almost like second nature to us. Also, by becoming proficient with our playbook early, we are now able to tweak our plays according to the team we compete against that week,” Krauth said.
The current seniors on the varsity team are Dalton Bassak, Drew Lewis, Everett McGregor, Dillon Smith, Joe Pearl, Jacob Essy, Nathan August, Hunter Krauth, Jeff Carter, Cory Tessmer, Carl Roman, Christian Burlotos, Tyler Kiss, Matt Graber, and Austin Hawkins.
The team currently holds a 1-7 record, and they finish the season with contests against Cloverleaf and Copley.
