The Minuteman mascot spreads school spirit across Revere High School through social media posts to increase student attendance at sporting events.
At Revere High School, the Minuteman mascot is a figure in promoting school spirit. From cheering on teams at sporting events to engaging with younger students in the district, the mascot plays an important role in representing the school’s identity. Two seniors have embraced the role, contributing to the culture of Revere High through their participation as the school’s mascot.
One of the students who has taken on the role of the mascot, Kyle Yost, first became involved during Frosh Fest, an event in August for freshmen to become familiar with the school.
“Chloe just said ‘I have a mascot (Costume). Do you want to wear it as a joke’? And I was like, ‘Yeah, that would be hilarious’,” Yost said.
He performed as Paul Revere during Frosh Fest to engage the freshman class. His experience was likened to “feeling free behind the mask.”
“If I can bring a smile to someone’s face, I’m doing it right,” Yost said.
Chloe Calogeras began her role in eighth grade as part of a legacy project. Calogeras contacted the athletic director to request the position.
“I contacted the athletic director and [said], ‘Can I do it?’ And yeah, that’s where it started,” Calogeras said.
Athletic Director Don Seeker explained that the Minuteman mascot associates with Revere High School across various extracurricular activities.
“The Minuteman mascot is something that everyone can associate Revere High School with, no matter what the extracurricular event is. We are Minutemen,” Seeker said.
Social media has become a tool for the mascot team to increase school spirit. With various posts urging students to attend football games often linked to the themes of those games.
“We love to increase school spirit. And I think social media is the perfect way to reach people,” Yost said
Kyle Yost explained the roles he and Chloe Calogeras play as mascots.
“She (Calogeras) is really the mastermind behind the social media page…I am more of the monkey in the suit metaphorically,” Yost said.
The efforts of students have made the Minuteman mascot a figure in fostering school spirit at Revere High School. Through their use of social media and participation at events, they have helped create community and pride among their peers. Whether they are energizing the crowd at football games or encouraging attendance at school functions, the dedication of students like Yost and Calogeras shows the impact of school spirit in creating memories and connections within the student body.
