New intervention specialist joins Revere High School for the 2024-2025 school year, bringing expertise in personalized support and student advocacy.
Kate Breiding is a new intervention specialist hired for the 2024-2025 school year. She graduated from Bowling Green State University, having received both her undergraduate and master’s of reading there.
Doug Faris, the high school principal explained what set Breiding apart from other candidates.
“Well, she was highly intellectual and had a lot of ideas. During that interview, we had those candidates complete some tasks, and she did hers by far the best.” Faris said.
Breiding’s role as an intervention specialist involves developing individualized education plans.
“The role of an intervention specialist is basically for students that have identified disabilities and are on IEPs and being their support system,” Breiding said.
Revere Middle School intervention specialist Kayle Toth’s response mirrored this description, saying that “students all learn differently.”
Daily, Breiding says her job “looks very different in very different ways,” also says she spends most of her time coteaching.
Breiding said that means “collaborating with other teachers and understanding how other individuals communicate to each other,” honing in specifically on students and their parents.
Breiding explained what skills a prospective intervention specialist needs, saying “It’s tough work, so you have to be hard working.” She also said “You have to realize that you’re going to be an advocate for your students,” citing empathy as a vital skill.
Toth echoed this sentiment, saying “Patience and communication are a big one because it’s a lot of collaboration and teamwork.”
The two agreed that the students they work with are their favorite part of the position.
Breiding said that she loves meeting students and “getting to know their personalities and hearing about their interests and their wants and their needs.”
Breiding is excited about her time at Revere, saying “You guys have all been so nice, and you kids have been amazing so far. So I’m excited to see where the career goes at Revere.”
As the school year progresses, Breiding’s role as an intervention specialist will continue to play a vital part in helping students succeed and reach their full potential.
