Revere High School hosts its annual Homecoming game on October 4 against the Barberton Magics; the following day is when the Homecoming dance will take place.
The high school has planned these events for this weekend through Student Council President Jessa Randall, Vice President Erin Shelby, Treasurer Sydney Firca, and Secretaries Sophie Tabbaa and Avery Stein.
The game against Barberton Magics kicks off at 7 pm on Friday, October 4, and the theme for the game is Hawaiian. Senior Vice President Erin Shelby said the student council spent time deciding what theme to use for the game.
“My fellow student council members and I decided to use the Hawaiian theme for the homecoming game because it is an easy theme to participate in and very popular,” Shelby said.
Adviser Beth D’Amico and the rest of the girls who represent the body of student council members, decided and agreed on the themes for the Homecoming dance.
“The four of us, Mr. Faris, and Mrs. D’Amico all had a meeting in August before school started. We came up with eight theme ideas and had to pass them by Mrs. D’Amico and Mr. Faris,” Shelby said.
Faris and D’Amico slimmed down the 8 homecoming theme options to 4, the students voted for their personal theme choice. The theme that received the most votes was Glow In the Dark. The school will be set up with decorations, and student council members are selling tickets at lunch. The dance which starts at 7 pm in the auxiliary gym and will end at 10pm.
An annual tradition that the high school hosts is Homecoming Court. The Homecoming royalty this year consists of six female, and male seniors. They were all voted upon by their fellow senior class, and will be voted upon for Homecoming King and Queen.
The dance and the game take preparations. The school will hold a pep rally in the main gym on Friday, October 4 for the game. Revere Football assistant coach Pete Rahas explained how the game is important to the team.
“These boys have to be disciplined in the way they approach the game at the end of the day. All that homecoming stuff, it’s great, but from an athlete standpoint they have to shut out all that noise and need to focus on the game,” Rahas said.
According to Max Preps, Barberton High School Football has a record of 1 win and 5 losses. Revere has 4 wins and 2 losses.
“Out of all the four teams, we have the best chance against Barberton, they are 1-5 and have had a rough start,” Rahas said.
Out of the six games Barberton has played, they were only able to beat Kent Rosevelt, who Revere has not played yet. Junior football player Tyler Frate talked about his view on the game.
“I’m very confident about the game against Barberton. We’ve grown over the years,” Frate said.
Rahas said he believes the game will be well attended.
“The community gets together for the high school games,” said Rahas.
Last year, Revere lost to the Magics 29-12. Although they lost last year, Frate is still confident.
“Obviously to win is the first thing, and also shut them out on defense and create as many turnovers as possible,” Frate said
Rahas said that players are trying to build from the result of the game against Barberton last year. They are trying to assemble a team that is stronger mentally and physically.
