A Revere High School (RHS) graduate has joined the RHS staff for the 2024-2025 school year while working as an intensive needs aide.
2020 Revere graduate Ana Hair worked at a Rotary camp for three years, and then served an intensive needs aide at Solon PreSchool for a year before returning to Revere. Hair helps students who have special needs learn material and helps them have more accessibility in a classroom setting. She provides help for a student’s physical and emotional needs and is also there for extra support for the students.
“I don’t specialize in any specific areas or behaviors or like moderate to intensive or intensive to any other kind of disability or needs,” Hair said.
Hair also explained what a normal day looks like and how she helps students.
“I’m put into one of the classroom settings. . . .then during the days as well we are also expected to change and aide the kids in wheelchairs with any physical needs that they might need, and that also includes one-on-one work with those students as well as other students that need that one-on-one work,” Hair said.
RHS Principal Doug Faris spoke on what he looks for when hiring for intensive needs aides.
“[We want] somebody that’s caring, somebody that’s knowledgeable, somebody that has worked with students with disabilities of course, but more than anything we want somebody that’s committed who’s gonna show up everyday and that’s gonna be a team player,” Faris said.
Hair said how she knew from when she was in high school that she would come back and teach at Revere.
“This was my goal, to get back where I am right now,” Hair said.
Hair said the teachers made a huge impact and difference during her high school years which made her want to do the same.
“Just being able to relate back to the teachers and the impact they have on students is just what kind of inspired me to come back and make a difference in other kids’ lives,” Hair said.
Faris was the Assistant Principal at RHS when Hair was a student, and he spoke about how there were many admirable qualities that Hair had as a student that makes her a good influence in a teaching setting.
“She was super engaging so she would come up and talk to me. We had a certain high five that we did. He had a ton of energy and was always very happy,” Faris said.
English teacher Alan Silvidi, who taught Hair when she was a student, said what she was like when she was a student.
“She was a real hardworking person. She was positive and friendly all the time. I always enjoyed talking with her. She got along with everybody and she had a positive attitude,” Silvidi said.
Silvidi also said how he felt when he found out that Hair was now a part of the staff.
“I was so excited. First of all I was really happy for her because I knew this is a place she wanted to be, but then I was happy for us because we hired a really good person to join our staff,” Silvidi said.
Hair said she’s excited for some of the Revere traditions that she was a part of when she went here.
“I always enjoyed going to the Copley vs. Revere football game. I always thought that it was so much fun to just celebrate with the school. . . . I’m just really excited to be back for that and be a part of the whole Beat Copley celebration,” Hair said.
Silvidi and Faris said that Hair is very excited to be a member of the staff this year, and as previously mentioned, she is excited to make differences in students’ lives like her teachers did for her.
