Revere High School (RHS) is holding its annual spirit week to get students excited and involved in Revere’s homecoming festivities the week of September 30.
Spirit week is a long-standing tradition at RHS going back many years. It provides a way to get students connected with their classmates and involved with Revere’s many activities. Spirit week creates an appreciation for Revere’s effort in athletics and events. The next spirit week taking place at Revere is the week of September 30 to October 4. At the end of that week, Revere will host their homecoming game against Barberton, as well as the RHS homecoming dance, with a theme of Glow in the Dark.
Erin Shelby, a senior and Vice President of Revere Student Council explained why it is important to get involved in spirit week and the process of organizing it. According to Shelby, familiar themes are to return.
“Usually we go off of what people have liked in the past, but the four girls of student council get together and we decide between the four of us, and then we pass them by Mrs. D’Amico and Mr. Faris,” Shelby said.
Shelby also talked about how spirit week makes students more likely to come to events when excitement is built up the whole week and how Student Council can get more students to participate. “It definitely gets people more excited, then teachers know and that’s definitely a big thing…I think we need to advertise more, like more posters, more social media advertisements,” Shelby said.
Sophomore Molly Wolfe talked about the school spirit she notices around school and mentioned a senior who she finds the most involved with Revere’s spirit weeks.
“Chloe [Calogeras] is the most spirited person in our school and I’m so mega excited for spirit week,” Wolfe said.
Senior Chloe Calogeras gave some insight on her excitement about being involved in the upcoming spirit week, and how important it is to participate. Calogeras constantly expresses her excitement for homecoming spirit week by going all out for the themes. Calogeras explained that she also enjoys the impact she has on others during the festive week.
“I encourage others because you’re only in high school once and you should live it up… I love dressing up and making people smile and laugh,” Calogeras said.
Spirit week provides a way to make connections to athletics, clubs, and peers. The student council came up with themes this year that have been seen in the past, and hope to see everyone participating and getting involved.
