NHS members volunteered at the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank to obtain hours necessary for membership.

The Revere High School National Honor Society hosted a banquet to formally induct its new members and honor its senior members.

Jason Milczewski, Revere High School government teacher and NHS adviser, discussed how NHS put the banquet together. He also explained what exactly happens at the banquet.

“NHS students are divided into committees in the beginning of the year, and the banquet committee plans the banquet details and all the logistics. It is mostly student run. The NHS President, Matthew Giltner, is the chair of the banquet committee . . . . We dress up, have a great dinner, and then recognize both junior and senior members of NHS with certificates and a slide show. Parents and family are also invited,” Milczewski said.

Along with the juniors and seniors of NHS and their parents, teachers and administrators are also invited to the banquet. Senior Maya MacKeigan-Moore, the vice president of NHS, mentioned that everyone recites the NHS oath at the end of the banquet. She also explained her role at the banquet.

“I, along with the other officers, [gave] a brief speech and lighting one of the candles of the five pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and knowledge,” MacKeigan-Moore said.

Senior Jordan Gifford, the secretary of NHS, discussed the attire for the banquet.

“People tend to dress up a bit and look nice. Usually girls wear dresses, and guys wear dress pants and a button down,” Gifford said.

This year the banquet resembled the banquets of previous years, but those running the banquet attempted to be more efficient since Revere High School’s chapter of National Honor Society now has so many new members. The banquet was held on March 13 at 6:30 pm at St. George’s Church in Copley.
