Moses also explained when she started learning Spanish and why she decided to go into a career of teaching the language.
“I took my first Spanish class as a freshman in high school. I continued my Spanish studies throughout college [at the University of Akron] and finished the coursework for my undergraduate degree at the Universidad de Valladolid [located in] Spain. . . I love Spanish. [From] conjugating verbs to studying the works of Pablo Picasso, I have always been intrigued by the Spanish language from the very start. Being passionate about what you study makes all the difference in the world. . . I decided to become a Spanish teacher because I enjoy sharing my passion for the Spanish language. I hope to make Spanish something that is fun, exciting and applicable for my students,” Moses said.
Moses elaborated on what she hopes to accomplish as a teacher at Revere.
“I hope that my students are able to leave my class with a love and appreciation for the Spanish language. I hope that they are able to build the skill sets necessary to continue on with their Spanish careers upon graduation,” Moses said.
Phil King, Revere High School principal, explained his involvement in the hiring process of Moses and what stood out most about her as a candidate to fill the open position. King also added what he thinks Moses will offer to the high school.
“I was the lead in the hiring process. She was interviewed by several administrators and staff members. . . . We were very impressed with her skill set and joy she shared while teaching her lessons. . . . I think she will offer a great perspective on student enjoyment of the language. She has a unique quality to allow students to experience the curriculum while learning,” King said.
Matthew Montgomery, superintendent of the Revere School District explained what he thinks is most important about learning a foreign language.
“I am a firm believer that students benefit from studying a foreign language. My only wish is we started our students earlier in their educational career,” Montgomery said.
Moses’s room is located in the Foreign Language hall at room 135.
