RHS band raises money through Easter Seals drive

The Revere High School band collected clothing, shoes, linens and many other items to carry out a donations drive with the Easter Seals.

The Easter Seals is a nonprofit organization that supplies programs to individuals with disabilities. Bob Sigsworth, president of the Revere Music Parents Association and father of junior Noah Sigsworth, set up the donation drive with the Easter Seals. Sigsworth described how the band came across the Easter Seals organization.

“As RMPA officers, we enjoy trading ideas with parents involved in music support or booster organizations with other schools, and we learned about this opportunity with Easter Seals at the last football game of the season. During a casual conversation with Barberton’s band boosters, they mentioned that they do an Easter Seals drive twice a year to help them raise funds. It has worked out well for them for several years, so we got the contact information, and the Easter Seals representative was great to work with in providing everything we needed to set up a drive,” Sigsworth said.

Sigsworth explained how simple it was to set up the drive with the Easter Seals.

“It was extremely simple. We worked with the local office of Easter Seals to choose a date and time, and then they brought a truck out to Revere High School, parked it in the parking lot, and community members brought their unwanted clothing, shoes, linens, etcetera to fill the truck. Of course we had to publicize the drive in advance and staff up with student and parent volunteers, but it was definitely one of the easier fundraisers that I have been involved with,” Sigsworth said.

Band parent Beth Packo took items up to the school for the drive and also discussed the procedure that was involved when she arrived.

“The process went very smoothly. Once you pulled your car up volunteers removed the items from your car and placed them in the truck,” Packo said.

Band director Darren Lebeau explained why he believes the Easter Seals drive is important.

“This charitable organization has been around for decades, they have a terrific track record. [They also have] a positive name in the community,” Lebeau said.

The band’s drive was very successful. They filled the donations truck to within one hundred pounds of the truck’s capacity with plenty of items to go to good use. Sigsworth also thanked the students and everyone who helped with the Easter Seals drive, including the community members who brought items for the drive.
