Revere welcomes new men’s track and field coach
The head coach for the Revere High School men’s track team hopes to bring his experience from coaching football to his new position.
Alternative Learning Center Coordinator Lyle Kniep is the new head coach for the men’s track team; Kniep is also the defensive line football coach. Kniep commented on how he plans to bring his experience from coaching football to the track team.
“Discipline, focus, [and] getting work in and out, that’s what we do with football. We are not here to fool around. I understand a lot of people have jobs and work to get done. Our focus is to make sure to get our work in,” Kniep said.
Revere High School math teacher Brian Racin also coaches for the track team. This is Racin’s third year coaching track; Racin coaches the sprinters and long jump athletes. He shared what he thinks Kniep can bring to the track team.
“Kniep is young and energetic. He likes a disciplined environment but still leaves freedom for the athletes to have a good time,” Racin said.
Senior runner Nate Predojev has run track since his junior year. He shared the benefits of having the same coach for football and track.
“The benefits are [knowing] how coach Kniep works and his expectations for us which helps out with minimizing mistakes and makes more room for improvement,” Predojev said.
The seniors for the 2016 season are: Ben Berry, Daniel Branch, Cameron Crockett, Noah Gresser, Christian Harwick, Steven Homolak, Stephen Kronenberger, Nick Kungli, Kevin Luo, Jake Majka, Nate Predojev and Quintin Vosper.
The team practices daily; they competed in their first meet of the season against Copley on April 5.
