Annual RHS Variety Show encompasses student talent
The 2016 Revere High School Variety Show, hosted by the Revere Players, will consist of an interactive Family Game Night theme in which the audience will play Monopoly.
The Revere Players will host this year’s Revere High School Variety Show; all proceeds will go to the Players program.
Throughout the show, the emcee will simulate the turn-by-turn gameplay of Monopoly. The programs handed out at the show will have different colors; each color breaks the audience into groups to keep the audience involved with the emcee. Revere High School junior, Jacob Zimmerman, this year’s emcee for the Variety Show, explained why he decided to get involved with the Variety Show and how this year’s show will differ from previous ones.
“I assisted the emcee last year for the Dark Knight, I told [the director] Ms. Fagnilli I could help for this year. [Writing the show] tests my creativity and I have a good time [doing it]. [In terms of differences] the emcee has been long and drawn out, there’s been funky themes. This year, we wanted to subdue it a little. I will be the sole emcee, Mr. Monopoly.
[Members of] Revere Players will [assist]. In past years, [members of] Players have played the emcee, this year, it’s my turn to contribute. We are also making this year’s emcee interactive,” Zimmerman said.
Nick Jones, Revere Players co-president, described what he will do in the Variety Show this year and why he participates every year.
“I will be singing ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ with Jake Nye and Charlie Wise, but that is it. . . I wanted to participate because I have done it for the past five years, so it’s kind of a habit [for me]. . . And I have never actually sang for it. [I always either performed] violin or emcee acts,” Jones said.
Jones also added how he believes the Variety Show benefits Revere.
“I think [The Variety Show] helps us recognize the talents of others around us. . . You constantly can see soccer games where our soccer players are killing it on the field, or go out and see other sports and their talents, or go see a play or musical and enjoy their talents, but the people who do stuff in Variety Show often are not part of any of those, so I think it reminds us that many people at the school have talents we do not necessarily see all the time,” Jones said.
Director of the show Amy Fagnilli explained how the Variety Show benefits Revere and what she hopes to achieve through this year’s show.
“The money raised is for Revere Players which is the entire theater program, [my main goal is to] get through the show without incident and have every act [perform well],” Fagnilli said.
The Variety Show will take place in the auditorium on Saturday, February 6 at 7 pm.
