Ski and Snowboard club starts in winter season

The Revere Ski and Snowboard Club, active at all four Revere schools, is preparing for the upcoming season as final registration deadlines approach.

Any Revere student between the ages of 8 and 18 can join the club, which costs $223.05 with included rental equipment or $159.00 without the rental equipment.

Starting January 9, members can go to Boston Mills and Brandywine Ski Resort in Peninsula between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The first five sessions include group lessons, in which club members go down the slopes in groups and discuss technique among themselves and with instructors. After the fifth week, members can choose to go to Alpine Valley Ski Resort in Chesterland during the same Saturday time slot.

The club also gives members four all-day passes, redeemable for $10 on any day at any resort.

One all-day pass to either of the resorts normally costs $43 for adults aged 13-69 and $38 for children aged 5-12.

Junior Emily Parish has skied for eight years and joined the club in eighth grade. She believes the club provides an opportunity for “enjoying the winter weather.”

Ann Dietz, the club’s adviser at RHS has maintained an involvement with the club for twelve years. She has noticed how the club adds a social element to the typically individual sport.

The Saturday sessions in addition to the four passes give students opportunities to “go out with friends and family,” Dietz said. She noted that membership often starts to grow after the first snowfall, when students look for a chance to stay active in the approaching winter weather.

Junior Anthony Pignataro, who joined the club as a freshman with no previous skiing experience, has come to appreciate the social aspect of the sport.

“[Members] can [ski] in big groups, which makes it really fun,” Pignataro said.

Students must register before December 18 and must use the link located at revereschools.org.
